LG counter-depth refrigerators provide plenty of storage into a small footprint. They're also priced less than standard-depth French door refrigerators and eliminate the requirement for a separate under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView counter-depth refrigerator (LMWC23626S) is no exception with the capacity of a standard refrigerator in an elegant, modern design, with an integrated dispenser that makes it easy to access water that is filtered.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins are spacious, and the top right shelf can be folded down to create a half-depth shelves that permit taller items to fit. A set of crisper drawers are at the bottom of the refrigerator and the full-width deli drawer can be used to store meat or produce.
The refrigerator features a recessible freezer on the back wall. This helps save space and lets you store more ice bags. The refrigerator uses door-cooling that utilizes vents in the doors of the fridge and freezer to bring cold air into the refrigerator. It prevents hot spots and keeps temperatures consistent throughout the fridge.
This LG refrigerator stood out during our tests. It provides plenty of space to serve a family, but we noticed a few unsettling quirks. The freezer drawers aren't as cold as we'd like. The temperature of the middle drawer reached 41° during our highest use test, which is sufficient to freeze ice cream or other frozen foods. The temperature of the rest of the freezer remained around 36 degrees.
The refrigerator doors also have handles with sunken handles that make it difficult for those with smaller hands to close. This may seem minor, but we prefer front-mounted handles on fridges so they're more convenient to open and close.
The fridge is expensive, but it's well worth it for anyone looking to have an ultra-sleek look in their kitchen. This refrigerator is recommended for those looking to upgrade their refrigerator or those who are building new homes and want a seamless look for their kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The RF23M8090SG is Samsung's latest and most stylish counter-depth French door fridge, priced at $4,200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well during our cooling test, but we aren't fans of the gimmicky handles or plastic crisper bins.
One thing that distinguishes the RF23M8090SG apart is the Bespoke line, which lets you customize your fridge using removable color panels that can be swapped out whenever you get tired of the ones you have currently. There are 11 color options that range from soft pastels to brighter hues and four metallic finishes. Some of the panels can be customized by adding photos or text making the fridge a personal feature that can be matched to your tie-dye Crocs, Rick Owens dress or Andy Warhol banana neon sign.
The LED lighting can be changed to a different color which is a nice option. The interior of the refrigerator has a smart finish that reduces smudges and makes cleaning much easier. The only flaws that really bother the RF23M8090SG is its crowded beverage center, and it takes some effort to access the door-indoor feature that houses a water dispenser as well as a pitcher. You need to look for an unmarked lever on the underside of the door midway across, and once you've done that you will be able to open a second door within the fridge, which houses the docking station for the pitcher along with the water dispenser as well as two shelves for drinks.

The 6.8 cubic-foot freezer compartment is big enough to hold a lot of frozen food items and comes with an impressive slide-out drawer that allows you to get the food you're looking for without opening the whole compartment. The freezer also has a butter-bin style compartment for storing small items as well as a large capacity storage drawer to store bulkier frozen foods. The drawer can be locked using the use of a password to keep out unwanted guests and has an LED light that is handy to allow you to see the contents at a glance. The freezer is also able to track energy use and help you cut your power bill with the smart-enabled SmartThings Energy mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators are a wonderful addition to any kitchen. They look neat and are suitable for all sizes of rooms. Counter-depth refrigerators are a great option if you want this design, but without the height. This model from Frigidaire which we've thoroughly tested and has received an above average rating in our evaluations due to its reasonable price and thoughtful features such as an adjustable temperature drawer.
However, it also has a few nagging issues. Our tests show that the FGHB2866PF is able to warm up quite some in the freezer, and could get uncomfortable warm on the refrigerator's outermost shelving. This is evident in our heat maps which show how the internal temperatures vary from minute to minute. The butter bin in the orange area on the right is particularly warm during our testing period. It might not appear too awful at first glance however, it means that the fridge is spending a significant portion of its time above 33 degrees.
It's also worth mentioning that the FGHB2866PF isn't an Energy Star-certified model, which could be important for certain buyers. The real problem is that this fridge isn't very good. It's not equipped with the latest features and is made of a slender, flimsy material which makes it difficult to recommend it over more expensive alternatives at this price.
In many ways, this Frigidaire looks and feels like the stainless steel version of a fridge that you might see in your local appliances store. It's a great option with a brushed-finish that looks nice and is resistant to smudges. However it's not able to differentiate itself from rivals that are more feature-rich and less expensive.
If you're seeking a counter-depth French door fridge but don't want to spend a lot of money the FGHC2331PF could be worth looking into. It's got enough storage for many families, and does a good job of keeping food fresh. Even if it's not an energy-efficient model, it doesn't come close to costing more than our top-rated models do.
